Bordeaux Sauvignon Blanc, François Thienpont 2016
François Thienpont, Bordeaux
The Thienpont heritage is impressive: Châteaux Vieux Château Certan and Le Pin in Pomerol; Châteaux Puygueraud, Lauriol and Les Charmes Godard in the Côtes de Bordeaux. In 2001, François Thienpont set out to create a family of wines that expressed the truth of the terroir and ‘Terra Burdigala’ was born. Wines were to be produced with absolute respect for the soil and the environment. From vine to bottling, all aspects of the creation of each wine were to be fully within the control of François and his team. Each wine hails from meticulously selected vineyards and each parcel of vines is tended individually. Natural yeasts are welcome; chemical fertilisers are banned. The end result is wines of authenticity and great value.
Bordeaux Blanc: 25 years average age. Clay/ chalk soils. Meticulously sourced from 10 hectares in the north of the Entre-Deux-Mers. Machine harvest. Cold pre-fermentation maceration. 21 days fermentation at 10-18°C. 3 months on lees in stainless steel. Light bâtonnage. Fining and light filtration before bottling in February following the vintage.
The enigmatic François Thienpont is passionate about producing wines which are pure expressions of the Bordeaux terroir. Fragrant, full of charm with beguiling notes of white peach, mango and pink grapefruit.
Grape: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
