Châteauneuf du Pape ‘Clos du Calvaire’ Françoise Rounieux 2015/2016
Françoise Roumieux and her sister Béatrice run this 43 hectares estate together with their brother Didier Mayard producing three separate Châteauneuf du Pape cuvées. Both the cuvée ‘Père Pape’ and ‘Clos du Calvaire’ offerings are traditionally made wines from 40 to 50 year-old vines and are aged in neutral 600 litre oak foudres and cement tanks. The ‘Crau de ma Mère is a small cuvée made with 100 year old vines and is only available in limited allocations.
Full-bodied, rich and velvety in texture, a tank sample of the Châteauneuf du Pape Clos du Calvaire looks to be another success. I loved the purity of this cuvée's black raspberry fruit.
