Familia Zuccardi, Santa Julia Organica Malbec 2016
Familia Zuccardi, Maipu
The estate was founded by Alberto Zuccardi in 1963 and is located at Maipu in Argentina's Mendoza Valley. Today the business is run by Alberto's son, Jose-Alberto Zuccardi, who has transformed the estate into one of the leading producers in South America. Mendoza is actually defined as high desert (rainfall hardly ever exceeds 200mm/annum) so irrigation is vital and is provided when the snow caps of the Andes mountains melt in springtime. This brings unique and particular characteristics to the vineyards such as a wide temperature range, marked seasons and greater luminosity leading to longer periods of maturation. This earthy Malbec is produced from organically cultivated grapes grown at high altitude and irrigation is provided via a water recycling programme.
Rich yet fruity, this has a nose of sweet violets in addition to ripe fruits such as figs and raisins. On the palate further notes of chocolate and vanilla complimented by a lingering finish. Drink with roast beef (think Argentinian here), lamb stew or a simple dish of ratatouille.
