Morgon, George Descombes 2015
Georges Descombes is one of the pillars of the Beaujolais appellation. His wines are serious, but also give a lot of immediate pleasure. Like his great friend Jean Foillard and mentor, the late Marcel Lapierre, he likes minimal intervention and lets the granite terroir of his 15.5 hectares of vineyards do the talking. Beautifully juicy but with good backbone, his wines can be enjoyed early but will also age for many years.
This is a serious Morgon from George Descombes. Recommended by Matts Wall in Decanter (July 2017 Issue) as an ideal red for serving a little chilled, minimal intervention results in beautifully pure, ripe raspberry, redcurrant and strawberry notes. Firm and precise on the palate, amazingly fresh with a zingy minerality which lingers on the finish providing immediate pleasure.
