Reuilly Blanc ‘Les Pierres Plates' Domaine de Reuilly, Denis Jamain 2016/17
Domaine de Reuilly, Denis Jamain, Reuilly, Central Vineyards
Denis Jamain's maternal grandfather, Camille Rousseau, first planted vines on the family's property in 1935, starting with just two hectares of Sauvignon Blanc. Now Denis’ Domaine de Reuilly comprises 21 hectares of vineyards, spread over four specific ‘lieux-dits’ within the commune of Reuilly, with 12 hectares planted with Sauvignon Blanc, 5 hectares with Pinot Noir and 4 hectares of Pinot Gris. With the help of Patrick Ragu, Denis has farmed organically since 2007 and has been using biodynamic practices since 2012. Denis’ other passion is forestry and he still manages the family's oak forests only 15km from Reuilly, which are amongst some of the most beautiful plantings in the Centre of France. As a result, Denis still has the unique privilege of choosing the trees which are cut to make the barrels destined for ageing his white and red cuvées that he sells under the ‘Les Chênes de mon Grand-Père’ label. The Sauvignon Blanc and a Pinot Noir from the ‘Les Pierres Plates’ vineyard lies on limestone-clay soils, closely resembling those of Chablis. This soil profile contributes greatly to the wine's stoney/mineral character. These Kimmeridgian soils contains a high proportion of sea shells and fossils that are over 150 million years old.
Denis Jamain Les Pierres Plates Reuilly Blanc has a Chablis-like minerality derived from Kimmeridgian soils in the south of the Reuilly appellation. Very precise, mineral, transparent and with lovely purity. It bursts with vibrant, gooseberry fruit and tangy green apples. It is a perfect summer aperitif or is a great fish and seafood white.
Grape: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
