Chateau Filhot was established by Romain de Filhot in the 18th century although it is likely the vines were planted a century before. The estate is situated just north of the of Sauternes and today is owned and run by Henri de Vaucelles, assisted by his son Gabriel. Between them they have undertaken an ambitious programme of replanting and renovation over the past 30 years including a total renovation of the cellars in 1995. New French Allier oak has also been introduced. Although the estate comprises of 350 hectares only 62 are within the Sauternes appellation
