Sato Wine, Yoshi & Kyoko Sato, Pisa Range, Central Otago

Kyoko and Yoshi met in 1998 at a Japanese bank, where they were working. After 12 years of work at the bank in Tokyo and London, they moved to New Zealand in 2006, aiming eventually to make their own wines and both studied for graduate diploma in viticulture & oenology at Lincoln University in Christchurch. Immediately after graduation, they settled in Central Otago and started their winemaking careers.

La Ferme de Sato refers to the range of small-production wine from 3.2 ha of vineyards owned by Yoshi & Kyoko Sato on the mainly schistose soils of the Cromwell Basin below the Pisa mountain range. 

The name translates to "in the clouds," reflecting its high-altitude site.

Wild strawberry, red cherry and cranberry with hints of raspberry, blood orange zest and rose petals, over subtle savoury tones of dried herbs, spice and wet stone. The palate is silken and bright, medium‑bodied with pure, translucent fruit, incisive acidity and very fine, chalky tannins.
