The Contado Riserva is made from 100% Aglianico grapes grown in the south eastern region of Molise. The grapes are hand-harvested in late October and undergo an extended period of maceration to build incredible concentration and flavour. After fermentation in stainless steel, the wine is matured in a combination of stainless steel and barriques for eighteen months, resulting in a layered, complex wine. The Phoenicians brought Aglianico to Italy from greek and mainly from Eubea, many centuries before Christ was born. This Ancient Vine produced Pope Paul III’s favourite wine.

2019 has aromas of blackcurrants, black cherries, dried herbs, tobacco and bitter chocolate. The palate is firm and toasty, with a full body and chewy tannins. Ambitious yet balanced.
