Agnès-Henry Hocquard, Bandol
Domaine de la Tour du Bon is situated atop a limestone plateau in Le Brûlat du Castellet, in the northwestern corner of the A.O.C. Bandol and has been farmed by the Hocquard family since 1968, although the farm has existed since 1925. Today, Agnès Henry Hocquard runs the 14 hectare organic estate. For several years she worked with wine consultants to produce wines that won great acclaim. However, she recently took the decision to make her own wines with great success. Situated 150 metres above sea level, the vines grow on a mixture of clay, sand and gravel which impart to the wines tremendous complexity and elegance, ideal for cellar-ageing. This superb red is a blend of 55% Mourvedre, 25% Grenache, 15% Cinsault and 5% Carignan, all hand-harvested and aged in oak foudres for 18 months.
Dark ruby-red in colour. Scents of liquorice, cinnamon and herbs of the garrigue. Dense and savoury on the palate with firm tannins and concentrated spicy notes. Dry and rich in texture. The finish is lengthy, hinting at further black fruit flavours.
Grapes: 55% Mourvedre, 25% Grenache, 15% Cinsault and 5% Carignan
