Vincent Dauvissat, Chablis
A strong case can be made that, of all the places where Chardonnay is grown, Chablis produces the most distinctive wines. Even “village” wines from good producers have a unique charm and minerality. But in the hands of a true master, working with old vines and elite vineyards, Chablis can scale heights unknown to other Chardonnay makers.
Such is the case with the wines of René & Vincent Dauvissat. Along with François Raveneau, Dauvissat is unquestionably Chablis’ greatest producer, owning some of the oldest and best vineyards,
Irancy is a small but distinctive red wine appellation located in the northern part of Burgundy, just southwest of Chablis. It holds Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée status since 1999, though wine has been made there for centuries. Soils are a mix of Kimmeridgian limestone and clay, similar to Chablis, which gives the wines minerality and a certain firmness.
Rare red bottling from Dauvissat showcases Pinot Noir grown on classic Kimmeridgian and clay soils. The result is a vibrant, lively wine bursting with tart red cherry fruit and accented by delicate notes of green spice. Elegant and fresh, with red cherry, raspberry, cranberry notes it reflects both the purity of the terroir and the precision typical of the domaine.
