Champagne Jean de Villaré, Charly sur Marne
Champagne Jean de Villaré is produced by the family-owned and run company, Baron-Fuente, located in the Vallée de la Marne, where Pinot Meunier is king. Originally established by Gabriel Baron and his Spanish wife Dolorès Fuentes in 1967, the company started out with just 1 hectare of vines. Today their holdings have grown to 38 hectares, planted on some of the very best sites of the Marne Valley. The marl, clay and sandy soils of the valley provide the perfect home for Pinot Meunier.
Their daughter Sophie joined the company in 1982, followed by their son Ignace in 1992. Brother and sister now run the company jointly. The pursuit of quality is the number one credo here. Controlling 100% of their own grape supply is the best start point. Working in tandem with respect for nature ensures a balanced, healthy crop of fine expression. Their modern, high specification cellar equipment allows for the gentle, yet quick, handling of fruit that is so essential in the safeguarding of the typicité of their various vineyard plots. This, in turn, provides the family with the blending options they seek in order to fashion their various cuvées.
3 years of bottle ageing. The translucent, pale golden colour of the Champagne Jean de Villaré Grande Réserve gives way to initial aromas that are elegant and pure. These are complemented by succulent notes of apple, peach and apricot. In the mouth, this very well-balanced champagne is complex and round. The mouth is supple and a well balanced. Unctuous with a good length in the mouth.
Grapes: 60 % Pinot Meunier, 30% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Noir
