Domaine Gavenat, Jean-Francois Gavenat, Rotalier

Jean-Francois Ganevat is an iconic winemaker, heralded not just as one of the best vignerons in Jura but in the natural wine world full stop. His family have deep roots in Jura, and Jean-Francois began by working alongside his father in the 1970s. Formal training at wine school followed and thereafter a stint in Burgundy with Domaine Marc Morey, before Jean-Francois returned to take over the family business in 1998 where his legendary reputation has grown stronger with each passing year.

With the support of his sister Anne, today Domaine Ganevat owns around 8 hectares, and is a producer of wines certified as biodynamic and with unprecedented quality and originality.

Le Feu Ganevat 2021 is a medium-bodied white wine produced from Gringet grapes in the Jura region of France. The Ganevat family has been tending to vineyards in the hamlet of La Combe in the southern Jura region since 1650. However, it is only in the last 20 years that the exceptional winemaking skills of the 14-generation vigneron, Jean-François Ganevat, have propelled the estate to international acclaim. The Le Feu cuvée is produced from Gringet, a grape native to the Savoie region of France. It is matured partly in old 600l barrels and partly in amphorae for two years and bottled without filtration or the addition of sulphites.

Expect a tense, complex, saline white wine with notes of quince, mirabelle plum and yellow flowers.
