Domaine de Fondrèche, Mazan, Ventoux
Sébastien Vincenti of Domaine de Fondrèche is widely recognised as one of the two best producers in Ventoux and to make things even better, he has kept very reasonable prices despite the ever increasing fame and demand. His wines are very polished and seductive, yet he always aims to improve his technique. Sébastien is moving to organic culture and uses specific canopy management to produce very ripe and rich wines, whilst harmonising the alcohol.
Altineo Rouge is sourced from the highest and coolest parcels of Domaine de Fondrèche, located on the Ventoux plateau at altitude, where strong air currents and pronounced day–night temperature variation preserve freshness and precision in the fruit. The vineyards are planted on ancient alluvial soils, rich in rolled pebbles, flint and crystalline elements, with a calcareous, sandy‑clay surface. These free‑draining, stony soils naturally regulate vine vigour and contribute mineral tension and refined structure to the wine.
Crafted with a purist approach, using sulphur‑free vinification to allow the fruit and terroir to speak with complete clarity. Fermentation is carried out gently, respecting the natural balance of the wine and preserving freshness, energy and aromatic precision. This low‑intervention philosophy results in a vibrant, expressive red that reflects both site and season with honesty and finesse. The wine is aged for 12 months across a combination of amphorae, ovoid concrete tanks and barrels, each vessel contributing nuance, texture and balance without masking the fruit. This varied élevage enhances depth and complexity while maintaining elegance and drinkability. The wine is bottled on a fruit day, reinforcing its focus on vitality and pure expression from vineyard to glass.
A harmonious blend that expresses finesse and freshness, shaped by the distinctive character of the Fondrèche plateau. It offers notable aromatic complexity, with layers of red fruit and spice carried by silky, well-integrated tannins that add elegance and balance to the palate.
