Anna Martens and Eric Narioo, Mount Etna, Sicily

Anna Martens and Eric Narioo made their first wine together on Mount Etna in 2008. In 2010, the couple purchased their first vineyard of old bush vines of Nerello Mascelese in Contrada Crasà, along with a neighbouring, derelict Etnean palmento and wine cellar.
Today, with a team of locals, they cultivate organically, eight hectares of terraced land, divided into small vineyard plots and olive groves scattered across the north face of the volcano. Grapes are hand harvested in September and October and fermented into a range of natural wines, expressive of their “terroir”. The estate also produces an extra virgin olive oil and rears the rare Sicilian black bee.

The estate produces small quantities of extra virgin olive oil from their organically grown olives.
80 – 100 year old trees are scattered amongst the vines at high altitudes on the northern face of the volcano. The clean mountain air and rich, mineral volcanic soils make for ideal growing conditions.

The varieties are Nocellara dell’Etna, Brandofino (Randazzese) and San Benedetto. The olives are hand harvest towards the end of October/early November depending on the growing season. They are cold pressed on the day of harvest at a local frantoio, resulting in a vibrant green, herbaceous and spicy extra virgin olive oil.

Add a fresh taste of Sicily to the table. Drizzle over salads, your favorite pasta dishes and fresh baked bread. With notes of peppers and tomato on the nose, artisanal olive oil has delicious acidity with a delicate spice profile.
