Domaine Berthoumieu,Viella
The Domaine Berthoumieu was founded in 1850, Today this 25-hectare is own by Lionel Osmin and is situated in the village of Viella in the northern Madiran region of southwest France. The estate has been in the family since 1850 and Didier is one of the leading makers in the region, his wines expressing the notion of terroir to perfection. Constance is an unoaked blend of Tannat, Cabernet Sauvignon and the indigenous Fer Servadou grape from old vines and is packed with forward and rustic aromas.
Fairly classic Manseng nose, if quite concentrated, with a whiff of spicy pear, pineapple and anise (has it seen some wood?). Quite a deep colour for a young wine, and coats the glass a little in a seemingly dessert- like way. Broad shouldered, though it may well age well.
Grapes: Petit Manseng, Gros Manseng
