Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru Domaine Vincent Rapet 2016/17
Domaine Vincent Rapet, Pernand Vergelesses
Tucked away in the village of Pernand Vergelesses at the northern end of the Côte de Beaune, and behind the hill of Corton, Vincent Rapet is producing consistently high quality Burgundy. This long established, family-run 20 hectare domaine fashions wines that are contemporary, authentic expressions of their origins. Vincent is a young talent who, alongside his wife Sylvette, brings more attention to the appellation. We have selected 4 wines with which to launch our collaboration with Vincent. Three white wines - a fresh, elegant Pernand Vergelesses Blanc ‘Devant les Cloux’, a more focused, refined Pernand Vergelesses Blanc ‘Les Combottes’ and a superbly built, tightly wound Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru.
Rapet has produced his finest white since 2014. The wine opens in the glass with a classy nose of ripe lemons, green apple, white flowers and crushed chalk, framed by subtle hints of oatmeal and beeswax. On the palate, it's full-bodied, deep and layered, with excellent concentration and broad shoulders, but also promising structural tension and reserve. The long, chalky finish is penetrating and intense.
