Philippe Bouzereau, Meursault
The Bouzereau family has been growing vines in Meursault for nine generations, dating back to the 18th century. The current Château de Cîteaux was established by Philippe Bouzereau (senior) in the 1960s. His son Philippe (junior) took over the running of the estate in 2006, having completed his studies in Beaune and worked vintages in Beaujolais, Australia and New Zealand. The 18 hectares of vines are cultivated according to the principles of la ‘Lutte Raisonnée’ - sustainable farming. Philippe passionately believes in letting the wine express its terroir, through minimum intervention in the winery and a judicious use of oak. He has certainly achieved this, as the resulting wines are rich, concentrated and showcase the terroir beautifully.
Meursault Charmes from Domaine Philippe Bouzereau is produced with grapes from a small parcel of 0.22 ha. on the 1st Cru vineyard of the same name. The vines were planted in 1950 and the fairly stony, deep soil consists primarily of clay and lime. Plowing is practiced between the rows and thus no herbicides are used. Since 2015, there has been a transition to organic cultivation.
In the fragrance, Meursault Charmes gives off a lot, with nuances of acacia flower, apricots, mirabelles and almonds. You sense a good minerality. In the taste, you first encounter nuances of "Crème Brûlée" but also crisp tones of citrus fruits and green almonds. Classic Chardonnay with elasticity and notes of hazelnuts and – again – almonds. Very mineral and clean.
Grape: 100% Chardonny
