Jean Stodden, Ahr
Over the decades, the Jean Stodden estate from the Rhineland-Palatinate has earned its position as one of the best producers of Pinot noir in Germany. The Jean Stodden Pinot Noir is wonderfully fruity in the nose, with aromas of red berries and cherries, complemented by youthfully spicy fruit. On the palate, the wine has a good, clear structure with elegantly integrated tannins.
The selected vineyards of Stodden Pinot Noir and Pinot Noir “J” and Pinot Noir “JS” are steep and sloped sites. The orientation of the locations is south and southeast. The soils are a mixture of sand and clay, sometimes with a very high proportion of stone. The wines are pure Pinot Noir, but a cuvée from our locations in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, Dernau and Rech.
Lovely barrel-aged pinot from a top estate from the tiny Ahr district on the Rhine near Bonn in Germany, with fine balance between fruit and oak, and a long finish. The flavour is reminiscent of cherry pips with a somewhat tannic structure from an exceptionally hot vintage.
