Domaine Ogereau La Martinière
The Ogereau family started with this parcel in 2015. They've found that botrytis develops and concentrates earlier in the season in this vineyard, and that the terroir gives a characteristic minerality to the wine with a slight bitterness and acidity on the finish.
0.87 ha, Planted in 2001 and 2005, La Martinière (monopole), Rochefort Sur Loire, at the foot of a hillside on the right bank of the Layon river, south and southwest-facing, steep slope (30-40% grade), stony soil with Briovérien schists, sandstones and puddingstones. The humidity from the river allows the Botrytis to develop quickly and intensely.
Organic (Ecocert), biodynamic (Biodyvin). 5,000 vines/ha, short pruning, manual de-budding and leaf thinning.
Harvested in multiple passes, pressed with whole clusters, pressed for 10+ hours, settled, ambient yeast fermentation and aging for 5-10 months in 228-400 L barrels (some new), the fermentation stops naturally after a few months, filtered with diatomaceous earth.
The nose is lively with intense notes of orange peel, mango and quince. The palate is fresh, clean and quite mineral. Hints of bitterness emerge as it opens up. Incredible length and complexity are carried by the fresh acidity. A grand vin.
Grape; 100% Chenin Blanc
