“The whites have obvious class and demonstrate all the potential for white-wine production in Saumur. The reds, not to be outdone, capture a unique expression of Cabernet Franc that surpasses all expectations. This is a departure for the real or supposed spirit of Saumur, with a quality of fruit that puts them alongside the greatest wine in France" Bettane & Desseauve's Guide to The Wines of France

Romain Guiberteau is a very ambitious young producer, who happens to be a very good friend of Nady Foucault, having previously worked with him at Clos Rougeard and says, “An internship with Clos Rougeard is an internship for life.” There is no better mentor than Nady; the progress made by Romain is stupefying and his Saumur Blancs from his 14.5 hectares of vineyards are stunning expressions of Chenin Blanc on the Brézé terroirs.

Saumur Blanc ‘Clos de Carmes’: The Brézé hill is home to at least nine historical and clearly delimited Clos'. Most of these are still owned by Château de Brézé. Of these nine Clos', three were singled out in the last century for their outstanding quality, of which three vineyards, one entirely owned by the Guiberteau clan is the monopole Clos des Carmes. A south-facing vineyard of 0.8 hectare plot of the vines (producing 30 hl/ha). Whole cluster pressing, indigenous yeast fermentation in barrel (both new and 1-2yrs old oak). 18 months ageing on fine lees in barrel.

Grape: 100% Chenin Blanc
